Berrien RESA’s Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) program enables students ages 5-26 to achieve communication, social engagement, academic and functional goals, and personal growth according to their Individualized Educational Program and Transitional Service Plan.
The ASD program is located in St. Joseph, Michigan, at Lighthouse Education Center.
Offsite classrooms are located within local school districts throughout Berrien County.
In addition to the academic, social engagement, communication and functional needs addressed through the program, students have access to various therapies/services. Therapy is offered based on the student’s Individualized Education Plans, which could include behavior analysis, speech & language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and orientation and mobility instruction.
Berrien RESA participates in the Statewide Autism Resources and Training (START) Project, a collaborative network that involves educators, support professionals, and families who come together to connect, share and grow to better teach students on the autism spectrum. The focus of the START Project is to utilize evidence-based practices in the areas of educational programming, professional development, and parent-professional collaboration.
